Activities and Clubs - Grimmer Middle School

The Kindness Club is a fun club that promotes kindness both in the school and community. Students will help with various activities such as the new student breakfast, anti-bullying month, random acts of kindness week, and a community activity to help a group in need. Meetings occur before school, and all are welcome to attend!

Dance Team

7th & 8th grade Grimmer poms perform both pom and jazz routines. Our season is from tryouts in May through mid February. We practice about 3 hours per week after school. We also have practices and dance camps throughout the summer months to work on technique and improve skill. We perform at the home football and basketball half-times. We also compete locally in January and February. Grimmer poms are expected to follow all Lake Central rule and guidelines. They are to model the best practices in academics as well as behavior. All girls must keep a “B” or better grade in all subjects to perform. While previous dance experience is not required, it may be beneficial. Any seventh or eighth grade girl may tryout.

Cheerleading

Cheerleading Requirements: Cheerleading tryouts are usually held in March the week before spring break. The cheerleading squads consist of 8 – 7th grade girls and 8 – 8th grade girls. For tryouts girls are required to perform 1 chant, 1 cheer, a 4 8-count dance, 3 jumps, and best tumbling skill. Grades are the number 1 priority. To maintain an academic focus, all cheerleaders are expected to achieve mastery (B- or better) in all classes. Squad members must attend practices before or after school for approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours. Practice are 2-3 times a week. Please be aware that there are scheduled practices during the summer. Cheerleading season begins April through December. Squad members MUST attend every scheduled football and basketball home and away games. Football games are on Wednesdays; basketball games are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Football season begins the end of August through the 2nd week of October. Basketball season runs from November through December. Camp is mandatory for every cheerleader. It is usually scheduled in June after school is dismissed for one week. Cheerleaders attend one competition during the season. The Indiana Cheer Association Competition is scheduled for the 3rd Saturday in October.
